Short visit to my parents. Read Doppler by Erlend Loe on the way down, and South of the border, west of the sun by Haruki Murakami on my way back. A good way to spend some hours on a train/bus.. They are both short and well written, so it's a fast read. Can recomend them both. The norwegian translation of Murakami's books are very good. I've read some translated books where you were left wondering if the person translating actually knows the original language.. Oh and when they replace pop cultural references to something norwegian. Sometimes if say a british tv personality is mentioned, in the translation they replace him/her with the norwegian equivalent.. It's annoying. If I don't know who they are talking about - I look it up! Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I actually have read books where they have done that.. It's seems like a ridiculous thing to do. Maby I'm just thinking about the subtitles in movies and on tv shows.. because they often to it there.. But no, I have a feeling I've read books where they've done that.. God, now I probably won't be able to stop thinking about that until I find out what books I was thinking of..
Came across a recording of Grant-Lee Phillips from Norwegian Wood in 2002. Haven't listened much to his music recently. But my god, he's good! Wonder when he's going to release something new.. Hopefully soon - they say he's in the studio now so.. Fingers crossed.
